Scope

This policy covers WiFiProbe 1.4.0 and later prepared for Google Play. Earlier website APKs include a separate update service. WiFiProbe is a network diagnostic utility, has no account or advertising system, and includes no analytics, advertising or third-party tracking SDKs.

Wi-Fi and Location permissions

Android requires Location permission and the device Location switch for nearby Wi-Fi scans. On supported devices, Nearby Wi-Fi permission is used to read available channels. WiFiProbe reads network names (SSIDs), access-point identifiers (BSSIDs), signal strengths, channels, frequencies, bandwidths and available link/beacon metrics to display Wi-Fi diagnostics. These scan details are processed on your device and are not uploaded by WiFiProbe. WiFiProbe does not request GPS coordinates, build a location history, or access location in the background. You may deny or revoke permissions; scan and Wi-Fi-name features will then be limited.

Diagnostic connections

While visible, the app sends ICMP ping probes to the local router and the selected built-in or custom targets, and performs DNS lookups through your active network's resolver. Traceroute sends probes to destinations you enter and to routers along the network path. Recipients and network operators can see the source public IP, destination and normal connection metadata. Target hostnames are sent to the network resolver when needed. ICMP and ordinary DNS are not end-to-end encrypted. The app does not send Wi-Fi scan results, passwords, contacts or personal files with these probes. Traceroute uses the active Wi-Fi or mobile network; Wi-Fi monitoring and speed tests require Wi-Fi.

Optional public IP information

The traceroute option 'Include public IP information' is off by default on a fresh installation. If enabled, the app contacts https://ipinfo.io/json over HTTPS. IPinfo sees your public IP and request metadata and returns approximate IP-derived location and network information, which the app displays and can include in a trace report. WiFiProbe does not send GPS coordinates or Wi-Fi scan details to IPinfo. IPinfo is a separate provider; its handling and retention are described at https://ipinfo.io/privacy-policy. You can leave this option off and still use traceroute.

Speed tests

When you press GO, WiFiProbe downloads test data and uploads generated test bytes to the server you select: StormFiber, National Broadband, PTCL or Cybernet Karachi. These are HTTPS requests to the configured speed-test endpoints. Servers receive your public IP, connection/request metadata and a random identifier created for that test; the identifier is not a persistent device ID. Uploaded bytes are generated for measuring throughput and are not files from your phone. Tests can use substantial data. The selected server and your network provider may retain their own network or access logs under their policies. WiFiProbe does not control those logs or claim that those providers immediately delete them. This app uses its own HTTP throughput test and is not the official Ookla Speedtest app or SDK.

Storage, reports and deletion

App settings and custom targets are stored in private app storage. Live ping and signal histories are kept in memory. Completed or stopped traceroutes are saved as text reports in private app storage and may contain destinations, hop addresses, local addresses, DNS results and optional public IP information. Use Android Settings > Apps > WiFiProbe > Storage > Clear storage, or uninstall the app, to delete its private settings and reports. No cloud account is created and the developer operates no WiFiProbe diagnostic-results database. Exported reports remain wherever you chose to save them and must be deleted there separately. Copy Output puts a report on the system clipboard, subject to Android's clipboard behavior. WiFiProbe does not upload reports automatically.

Support and external pages

Contact support opens your email application; nothing is sent until you choose to send it. If you email us, we receive the address, message and attachments you send and use them to handle your request. Ask via the contact address to delete support correspondence, subject to necessary legal retention. Privacy/support pages open in your browser; website hosting and email providers process normal service metadata under their own policies. Google Play independently processes installation, update and review information under Google's policies. The app does not download or install APK updates; updates are delivered through Google Play.

Security and choices

The app requests only the network/Wi-Fi access needed for diagnostics. HTTP speed-test and public-IP requests use HTTPS and Android certificate validation. ICMP and DNS traffic do not provide the same encryption. Private app storage is protected by Android, and app backup is disabled. Do not export or share reports containing information you do not want others to see. You can stop tests, leave the app, disable optional public-IP lookups and revoke permissions at any time.

Audience and changes

WiFiProbe is a general network utility and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly solicit children's personal information. We may update this policy as the app changes; the effective date will be updated. Contact zanrpg8000@gmail.com for privacy questions.
